Marabou D1
Steamboat Springs, Colorado
Description
Perched on a gentle rise within the exclusive ranch community of Marabou in Steamboat Springs, this custom mountain residence, one of the first designed in this enclave, celebrates Western heritage through refined craftsmanship and modern livability. Designed to embrace the expansive landscape, the home commands sweeping views of Sleeping Giant, capturing the drama of shifting light and seasons through generous expanses of glass.
The architectural character is rooted in a robust timber-frame structure, expressed through exposed beams, sculptural trusses, and warm natural materials. Rich stonework rises from the landscape, anchoring the home visually and structurally, while broad windows and clerestories invite natural light deep into the interior. The interplay of timber, stone, and glass creates a timeless alpine aesthetic—both rugged and elegant.
A welcoming porte cochere marks the arrival experience, offering sheltered entry and forging a strong sense of place. The home’s layout is organized to celebrate outdoor living, with covered porches, terraces, and integrated landscaping that blend seamlessly with Marabou’s rolling meadows and surrounding woodlands.
An additional dwelling unit (ADU) sits discreetly on the property, echoing the same architectural language as the main residence. This flexible space provides opportunities for guests, caretakers, or multi-generational living while maintaining privacy and cohesion with the overall design.
Inside, the home is envisioned as a sanctuary rooted in nature—warm textures, open volumes, and curated views work together to create an atmosphere of comfort and understated luxury. Every design decision reinforces a connection to the land, from the orientation of the main living spaces to the materials sourced to complement the site’s natural palette.
This Marabou residence stands as a contemporary interpretation of classic Rocky Mountain architecture: grounded, welcoming, and deeply connected to its surroundings. It is a place built for gathering, reflection, and the enduring enjoyment of Steamboat’s unparalleled landscape.
