Quito Vista

Quito, Ecuador

Description

Perched on a cliffside that overlooks the village of Cumbayá, this stunning mountain residence boasts 360-degree views of the surrounding semi-tropical landscape. The home is conveniently located within a short commute to Quito, Ecuador’s capital and largest city.

Designed for a prominent chef, his wife, and their young children, the contemporary residence is a stark contrast from the region’s prevailing South American architectural vernacular.

Local craftsmen oversaw excavation of the steep site and hand crafted the structure, using local woods and other natural materials to ensure it fully integrates with its surroundings. The home also embraces nature through an abundance of glass and outdoor living spaces, including a protected courtyard and infinity edge swimming pool. And a large subterranean wine cave, accessible from the courtyard, supports the owner’s culinary interests.

Lush vegetation is planted on a series of hillside terrace gardens crafted to restore the site following the excavation work.
