Loli Ala

Koloa, Kauai

Description

This one-story, island contemporary-style home features a design rooted in simplicity, balance, and a natural material palette. Loli Ala, meaning “Changed Path” — symbolizes a journey reshaped, where form, light, and movement come together in an altered way.  Two “solid” forms are connected by a simple roof structure and expansive glass walls that define the central living space and the angular juxtaposition of the volumes responds thoughtfully to the site’s geometry, sightlines, and functional needs. Low-sloping rooflines create generous overhangs that provide deeply shaded lanais at both the front and rear of the home. As one approaches the property from the south, a garden courtyard welcomes guests, with the garage discreetly tucked behind the northwest corner. This configuration creates a curated experiential procession for both visitors and residents. The landscaping is designed to offer privacy for these expansive openings, while also shaping organic outdoor gathering spaces.
